Match Details

Scorers: Ryan 2, Woods

Royal Holloway Old Boys Reserves won their first league game since September with a 3-2 victory at Merrow. With a good number of players available, the visitors were able to put out a stronger side than in recent weeks and were made to fight until the final whistle to claim the points.

A fairly even first half saw the Old Boys start well, but lost their way in the first half and had ‘keeper Rich Harrison to thank for a string of fine saves to keep the scores level. Late in the half, Rich Ryan beat a couple of men and break into the area and fire past the ‘keeper to give the visitors a half-time lead.

The second half saw the Old Boys come out with a more positive intent, and deservedly score a second as Chris Woods cut in from the right and drive a cross shot in the ‘keeper’s near post. Unfortunately, the intensity level dropped and allowed Merrow to pull one back, but the Old Boys regained the two goal advantage when Abbas Hussain’s long cross beat everyone and Ryan headed his second at the far post. Merrow pulled another goal back when Harrison was challenged from a free kick and the ball was knocked in from close range, however the visitors held on for a valuable three points.

Next week sees the same opponents at Nobles for a League Cup tie.
