Match Details

Scorers: Brand, Walton 2, Grierson

An entertaining contest resulted between on paper, two of the out of form teams in the division. The visitors took the lead when Lawrie Brand was put clean through and made no mistake, however the lead was shortlived when confusion at the back allowed the Ripley forward to head over the ‘keeper. The home side added a second before the break, taking advantage of the Old Boys losing possession, switching play and finishing well.

The Old Boys made a tactical change at half-time and despite some positive attacks, the home side added a further two goals, one from a misjudged cross and the other from a corner. Sub Joe Walton headed one back, then Sean Grierson made no mistake when played in by Lawrie. The visitors went all out attack in the final twenty minutes, playing with just two at the back. Sean and Joe coming agonisingly close to grabbing the equaliser, and the home ‘keeper made an excellent save to keep the Old Boys out. Then in the final minute, a corner from the right was headed home by Joe for his second of the game to grab the visitors a point.

Still work to do particularly at the back, but magnificent spirit until the end. Good luck to Ripley who played far better than their position at the bottom of the table, and we look forward to welcoming them to Nobles for the return fixture.
